In Germany, health authorities have reported 23,648 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. This means that a peak was reached on Friday, according to the RKI. On Friday one week ago, the previous peak value of 23,542 cases was reached. Compared to Thursday, the number of newly reported cases on Friday rose by a good 1,000.
The RKI counted a total of 879,564 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose by 260 to a total of 13,630 by Friday.
According to the RKI management report of Thursday evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.99 (previous day: 0.95). This means that 100 infected persons are mathematically infecting 99 more people. The value reflects the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If the value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection subsides.
